2015-2018 Ford F-150: Recall Alert
Vehicles Affected: Approximately 1.6 million model-year 2015-18 Ford F-150 regular-cab and SuperCrew pickup trucks built from March 12, 2014, through Aug. 23, 2018, at the Dearborn Assembly Plant in Michigan, and from Aug. 20, 2014, through Aug. 23, 2018, at the Kansas City Assembly Plant in Missouri.
The Problem: If a front seat belt pretensioner deploys as the result of a crash, the sparks may ignite materials such as insulation and carpeting within the B-pillar area increasing the risk of fire inside the pickup.
The Fix: Dealers will remove insulation material and wiring harness tape from the B-pillar and install heat-resistant tape to the carpet and its insulation. Dealers will also modify the back interior panels of regular-cab F-150s. All repairs will be done for free.
What Owners Should Do: Ford will begin notifying owners Sept. 24. Owners can call Ford at 866-436-7332, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit its website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
