Movies and TV shows can get remade so why not cars and trucks?
This week the Ford Motor Company released more photos of the upcoming 2019 Ford Ranger, set to hit dealerships early next year, to whet the appetites of truck buyers.
The small pickup truck is Ford's most recent foray into the market which is already teeming with midsize models like the Chevrolet Colorado and the Toyota Tacoma. Heck, even the Nissan Frontier has made inroads into that niche market.
Those Chevy and Toyota models have both showed sales increases in previous years, giving Ford reason enough to try and get in on the action.
This all comes at a time when Ford is winding down a bad year with stocks down a reported 29 percent according to a Fortune report this week. President Donald Trump's trade tariffs have cost the company as much as $1 billion, Fortune said.
The first model year for the Ranger was 1983 with a second-generation model introduced in 1993. It was initially brought into production to go up against the small trucks being manufactured by Japanese auto makers.
While Ford ended the Ranger's 29-year U.S. run in 2011, it never really stopped selling the Ranger. It continued selling the Ranger abroad, and it's been the best-selling pickup in Europe and New Zealand.
Ford is hoping that customers bite on the new Ranger and don't just settle for another F-150, still one of the best-selling pickups on the market. The Ranger will be marketed as the preferred truck for urban dwellers looking for something rugged, but sleek enough for city streets.
Various trims (XL, XLT and Lariat) and custom packages will decide affordability for prospective buyers. It will come in eight exterior color options.
The revamped Ford Ranger should be on sale to the public during the first few months of 2019.
Final assembly for the Ranger will be at Ford's Wayne, Michigan plant. Although Ford makes Raptor Rangers for international markets, it doesn't appear to have any plans as of yet to make that option available to North American drivers.
Additionally Ford is still reportedly bringing back a newly revamped Bronco SUV by the beginning of the next decade. Broncos were discontinued in 1996 but have remained a cult favorite.
