Brabus Revamps Last-Gen AMG G 63 With 700 4×4²

Brabus has given the last generation of Mercedes-AMG G 63 a send-off in the Brabus 700 4×4².
Last we heard from German tuning house Brabus, they were busily turning the current generation of G 63 into a wide-bodied luxury street machine with 700 horsepower on tap to launch from zero to sixty in just 4.3 seconds. Certainly a noble endeavor, but not something that normally lends itself to the G 63, which needs the open plains to truly feel at home.
It also seems that Brabus had a bit of a soft spot for the previous W463-generation of G 63 because their latest creation is based off the old 2017 Mercedes-Benz G500 4×4², or the extreme off-road version of the G-Class wagon.
When the G500 4×4² was born, it came with a 4.0-L twin-turbo V8 engine with 416 hp and 450 lb-ft of torque. That’s plenty for off-road fun, but Brabus doesn’t stop and “enough”--they only make cars with more horsepower than you know what to do with.
So they swapped the engine with the same 5.5-L twin-turbo V8 from the Brabus B63S but tuned it for a little more torque. Okay, a lot more torque.
Now the 5.5-L’s power is rated at 700 horses and 708 lb-ft of torque. Zero to sixty is done in off-road tires in 5 seconds, with a top speed limited to 130 mph lest those off-road tires turn into confetti.
Those tires, by the way, are Pirelli Scorpion ATRs covering 9.5 J x 22-inch wheels.
You may have also noticed the extra tall stance of the Brabus 700 4×4², and that’s due to the extra tall aluminum struts with oil dampers. Brabus calls them “special suspension” because they can take 15% more punishment than the original set the G 63 came with.
And knowing that owners will certainly take this car to dangerous places, Brabus installed "robust skid plate elements” to protect the SUV’s delicate underbelly.
Only 10 Brabus 700 4×4²s will be built, with each going for 209,000 euros, or roughly $237,000. That seems like a lot, but this is the last of a generation for Brabus, and they’re not going to part with it lightly.
