Several owners are now speaking out.
The 2022 Ford Maverick is sold out. Want one? You'll have to wait until sometime this summer to place an order for a 2023 model. It's a good problem to have and, hopefully, production figures will increase as necessary for next year. But, there still appears to be at least one first model year issue to resolve. Though by no means does this affect safety or any other vital system, there's new evidence the factory-applied First Edition decals on the truck's side are unable to withstand the car wash.
Several members of the Maverick Truck Forum are claiming their trucks' decals have become damaged after going through an automatic car wash a few times. The specific sections are on the hood and sides, such as the lower stripes on the First Edition model.
One owner was the first to report the problem and very quickly several other owners/forum members posted their own similar pics. We've reached out to Ford seeking comment but no response was received before this article was published. We'll provide an update if and when we get a response.
Though purely a cosmetic issue and a relatively inexpensive one at that, having a brand new vehicle's cool-looking body decals peeling away must be extremely annoying. It doesn't look good and might reflect poorly on the owner. The exact opposite appears to be true as these owners are simply taking care of their Mavericks.
It's called keeping them clean. In all likelihood, the decals themselves are the problem, not the paint.
Whatever adhesive is used to keep them attached clearly doesn't appear to be working. We don't think weather conditions have much to do with it but, again, we're waiting to hear directly from Ford. In the past, Ford has done good work in making sure customers are kept happy. If something goes wrong, such as defective Bronco hardtops, then the Blue Oval makes things right with proper repairs and/or replacement parts at no charge.
Aside from the expected decal fix, the 2023 Maverick update we'd like to see most is the availability of all-wheel drive on the Hybrid model. Fingers crossed.
