But its full potential still hasn't been unleashed.
Ford's 7.3-liter Godzilla V8 powers Super Duty trucks like the F-350 Super Duty as well as the latest Blue Bird school bus. In stock form, this unit generates 430 horsepower and 475 lb-ft of torque, providing plenty of grunt for Ford's reliable workhorses.
However, Ford's Godzilla V8 is also available as a crate engine, resulting in some unique build projects. With some modifications, Ford Racing's former director Brian Wolfe has shown how you can extract a lot more power out of Ford's Godzilla engine with little effort.
Wolfe has been busy transplanting Ford's 7.3-liter V8 into a Fox-Body Mustang and in this latest video posted by YouTube channel REVan Evan he shows how a ProCharger supercharger with a huge pulley can boost the output significantly.
When hooked up to the dyno, the engine produced 965 horsepower and 845 lb-ft of torque. Impressively, this output was achieved at just 5,900 rpm, so the engine wasn't even being pushed hard. This exceeded all expectations since the customer only wanted around 850 hp. However, this setup can produce a lot more power than that.
Fuel injectors from a Mustang Shelby GT500 were used at 73 psi but the team ran out of injector because they weren't expecting the engine to make this much power, especially with less than nine pounds of boost pressure.
With larger injectors, Wolfe estimates the engine will make around 975-1,000 horsepower. For this customer build, Ford's Godzilla engine is also upgraded with Stage 2 heads, upgraded pistons, a dry sump, and a mild cam.
Since the customer only wanted around 850 hp, the intakes, throttle body, and crank were left stock. With a new intake and a small pulley, Wolfe thinks the engine could produce as much as 1,200 - 1,300 hp, so it's only a matter of time before tuners unleash Godzilla's full potential.
