Magneto is making a comeback!
The X-Men are pretty cool. Odds are, one of you now had that iconic '90s animated series theme song stuck in your head. But cars named after X-Men? Well, that's just as cool, if not cooler. If this teaser is anything to go by, the Jeep named after the Master of Magnetism is coming back. It was only a year ago that Jeep debuted the last Magneto concept car at the Jeep Easter Safari. That car was based on the existing Jeep Wrangler and featured a fully-electric drivetrain. Now it looks like the brand is bringing the idea back, and probably with a twist.
The text provided to us by Jeep seems to allude directly to that. "Like all good comebacks, do you stick with the proven blueprint in all of its mind-boggling electrified glory, or do you push the limits on legendary Jeep 4x4 capability and off-road development even further?" Jeep says "enthusiasts know the answer." Do we though?
If anything, the clues are there, and it's almost a certainty that whatever gets brought to this year's Easter Safari, be it Wrangler, Jeep Gladiator, or both, will feature 4xe plug-in tech carried from the existing hybrid Jeep. Previous Easter Safari teasers allude to both vehicles, stating that "two of the new concept vehicles, including one 4xe electrified Jeep SUV" will be brought to the Easter Safari.
We've been given more info on other aspects of these new Easter Safari concepts previously, with Jeep telling us that the concept (or concepts) will focus heavily on the open-air freedom that Jeep has become known for. Previous images show that one of the concepts, a Gladiator in our eyes, has no C-Pillar. At the very least, we expect the revamped "Magneto" Jeep to carry a similar white and blue livery like the one from last year, as well as being either fully electric or hybridized.
As things sit, we expect a total of three new Jeep concepts to debut this year. Our theories range a bit on what each of those could be. Obviously, there's the first: an electric or hybrid version of a Jeep Wrangler or Gladiator.
Given the rear shot in the teasers below, we're all but certain one is a Gladiator. Another still could be a very literal vehicle to showcase new Jeep accessories, like the roof rack in the below teaser image. The final car is totally up in the air, but we're betting on a Wrangler. For now, we'll assume Jeep is bringing a Magneto Gladiator, an "accessory car," and some kind of Wrangler, likely hybridized or electric, like the Magneto. We'll be collecting bets for the CarBuzz office pool in the comments below.
