Nissan Trucks, Armada Get Factory-Backed Customization Packages

Nissan announced it will partner with outfitter Rocky Ridge Trucks to provide several tuned versions of the Nissan Titan, Titan XD, Frontier pickups and Armada SUV directly from authorized Nissan dealers. The new partnership allows these packages to be financed through the automaker's credit arm, Nissan Motor Acceptance Corp., as part of a normal purchase process.

The upgrades, including suspension lift kits, wheels and more, will be fully warranted by Rocky Ridge with a warranty that matches Nissan's own. The Nissan Titan is currently available with a bumper-to-bumper five-year/100,000-mile warranty, which Nissan says is best in the market, that Rocky Ridge will match with its equipment.

Packages were announced at The Work Truck Show 2019 in Indianapolis, but Nissan only had one Titan XD on display. Kits for the various trucks and SUV come with unique equipment, but all share some commonalities: Titans all get a 6-inch lift kit, Armadas get a 3-inch rise and Frontiers get bumped 2.5 inches. All have custom wheels and off-road performance tires.

The Titan XD comes in three versions of varying performance and luxury treatments: Stealth, K2 or Altitude. The Stealth model was on display at the show, featuring the 6-inch lift kit, nitrogen-charged rear shocks, and an e-coated skid plate, front and rear cross-members, and strut tower extensions. Twenty-inch off-road wheels shod with 35-inch Mickey Thompson Baja ATZ P3 tires are fitted along with special Rocky Ridge caliper covers, and the whole thing is given a special alignment and balancing to work with the vastly different suspension geometry.

The sample we previewed was rather tame. The truck doesn't look good with this package on an industrial white vehicle; something racier would be in keeping with the custom truck look. While I can't speak to how the significant suspension, wheel and tire changes have altered the ride and handling of this Titan XD, the alterations seem to be well-integrated. The interior modifications are few — just some custom upholstery (that looks nicer than the stock Nissan leather) and rubber floormats. It's an impressive assembly of components, but only a road test will tell if it works as well as it looks.

Cosmetically, the Stealth Package features a Vengeance low-profile front bumper with integrated 20-inch Rigid Industries LED light bar and LED cube lights. A spray-in bedliner is added, as is a grille coated in the same bedliner material. Painted fender flares cover the wheel wells, while a stainless-steel dual exhaust is installed underneath on gas-powered models (diesels just get a black ceramic exhaust tip, no exhaust update).

If this isn't enough customization for you, you can also add powered side steps (recommended — the thing is lofty), a custom exterior paint such as a gradient fade or matte finish, and a winch-capable bumper.

The Titan half ton gets K2, Altitude and X packages, while both the Frontier and Armada get the Z3 Package. You can research all of the packages, see images of the various trucks and learn about what's included on Rocky Ridge's dedicated site here. What you won't learn there — and what neither Nissan nor Rocky Ridge has mentioned — is what these packages will cost. For that, you should talk to a dealer or Rocky Ridge directly, which makes us think they're probably pretty pricey.
