The New 2019 Ram 3500 HD Diesel Tows the Maximum 35,000 Lbs! (Video)

February 4, 2019

2019 Ram 3500 HD with a 35,000 lbs trailer

The 2019 Ram HD trucks are thoroughly updated for increased and class-leading towing and hauling capability. The new 2019 Ram 3500 HD trucks are rated at a maximum of 7,680 lbs of payload and 35,100 lbs of towing. How does the truck behave with a maximum load behind it? We can show it to you in this first drive video review.

While the maximum payload rating comes with a Ram 3500 dually 2WD with a 6.4L HEMI V8, the all out towing rating is only available with the high output (H.O.) 6.7L inline-6 turbo-diesel from Cummins. The fully redesigned H.O. diesel is now rated at 400 hp and class-leading 1,000 lb-ft of torque.

The H.O. diesel is mated to an updated 6-speed AISIN automatic transmission. There is still a standard 6.7L Cummins power rating for the 2500 and 3500 trucks. It comes in at 370 hp and 850 lb-ft of torque, and it is still mated to the 68RFE 6-speed automatic transmission. This is 50 lb-ft higher than before.

There is no more manual transmission option for the 2019 Ram HD.

The third engine is the 6.4L HEMI V8 with the same output as before – 410 hp and 429 lb-ft of torque. The gas V8 is now mated to a new 8-speed ZF automatic transmission.

We cannot yet provide a full driving review of the new trucks due to an information embargo, but we can show you the truck with the maximum load and tell you all about it.
