What Pickups to Expect at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show
The 2019 model year is shaping up to be quite interesting for pickup trucks. Two old friends are returning to the mid-size pickup class: the 2019 Ford Ranger and 2019 Jeep Gladiator. We're also expecting to see new versions of heavy-duty models from Chevrolet, GMC and Ram at one of the upcoming major auto shows. For new truck buyers that means lots of choices, especially given how much change and improvement we've seen in the new half-ton pickups from those manufacturers. Regardless of what 2019 brings for pickup trucks, attending an auto show is a good way to see what's available and what the future holds as well as figure out what you like and don't like.
The Los Angeles Auto Show is the unofficial start of the auto show season — assuming you don't count the State Fair of Texas — and we'll be ready for it. So far, the only rumors we've heard regarding pickup truck debuts at the 2018 L.A. auto show are the Jeep Gladiator and an all-new electric pickup, the R1T from Rivian Automotive. From what we understand, the latter was created by a team with lots of electric vehicle experience and the former is likely to be the vehicle of the show if Jeep does it right. We'll know more in a couple days.
The 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show kicks off with a media preview Wednesday and Thursday, and we'll be reporting straight from the Los Angeles Convention Center, 1201 S. Figueroa St. The show will be open to the public Friday through Dec. 9. Hours are 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday-Dec. 2 and Dec. 7-8; 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Dec. 3-6; and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Dec. 9.
General admission is $20 for visitors age 13-64 ($15 if purchase in advance online), $10 for senior citizens age 65 or older and $5 for children age 6-12; kids younger than 6 get in free. Dec. 3 through Dec. 6, general admission is discounted to $15 at the door and $12 in advance online. Early entry tickets, group discounts and guided tours are also available; visit the show's website for more ticketing info.
